Dick's Picks 36
This particular Pick has been an especially long time coming: when Dick's Picks was created in 1993, series founder and guiding spirit Dick Latvala had the 9/21/72 show from the Spectrum in Philadelphia, PA very high on his short list of candidates for the first release. Dick departed from this world some six years ago, but the gifts he left to this community just keep on coming.

I just got the latest issue of Relix, and there is an article about Rhino's plans for GD releases.
Not sure if the article is all old news, but it does say that they are taking requests for possible releases at: vault@dead.net (for what that's worth). It also says "For starters, Deadheads can expect a new Vault release - a threedisc, full 'historic New Years Eve show in the Dead's own backyard'- in early 2007."

The truth will still lie somewhere in between
Well, that completely rules out Sunshine Daydream!
'historic'...Victim Or The Crime > Dark Star....from 1989?
I doubt that. Isn't everything historic?? 1971, 1972 or 1976?
'backyard'....Winterland or Cow Palace? It can't be anything from Oakland unless Rhino is using the term backyard loosely.

"All Your Teabag Are Belong To Us. (Morans!)"
I'd be inclined to figure that if they're going to do a multi-track, it'd be 12/31/76
If they're simply calling everything a "Vault release" now, including two-tracks, then all bets are off. I wouldn't mind seeing 12/31/71, actually.

...yep, this dude woke up and was asking if they had started the show yet...
...behind me sat one of those know-it-all-constant talkers (read no-nothing wind bag) who was trying to impress her dad with what she knew...she kept telling him about how the GD were a lot like Led Zepplin!?!?!

Pussy tastes even better on acid
Obviously a lot softer and rounder than Zeppelin, but definitely some similarities in terms of influences and even in some of the longer jams.
Some of the lengthy wah-wah fueled jams in "Dazed and Confused" are not all that far off from some of the wah-wah fueled early 70s GD jams. Zeppelin lacked some of the GD's finesse, of course.
